Hansel and Gretel at Mother Shipton’s – May Half Term

26th May – 3rd June (10 am to 4.30 pm (last admission 3.30pm).

Join Hansel and Gretel at Mother Shipton’s during May Half Term, as they journey through the woods trying to find their way home. Don’t be tempted to eat the house made of cakes and sweets, the wicked witch might see you!

Actors will be stationed as characters in the park to interact with children and help families complete a themed adventure quiz sheet. Fun for all the family every day from Saturday 26th May to Sunday 3rd June. The Park opens 10am to 4.30pm (last admission 3.30pm). Standard admission prices apply which can be found on our website.

See the famous Petrifying Well and Mother Shipton’s Cave. The park also has several scenic picnic areas alongside the popular River Nidd, an adventure playground and museum and gift shop.

Love Your Aquarium, runs 26th May to 3rd June

It’s Love Your Zoo and Aquarium week across the UK, and here at The Deep, we want to tell you all the great reasons that you should love your local attraction. From conservation to events in the community, there is far more to The Deep than meets the eye. So head on down this May half term and learn all about local wildlife and how can protect it. Take part in daily pond dipping sessions as well as planting your own wildlife seeds to take home.

Also during half term week on 2nd June: Shark Egg Case Hunt. Join us at Spurn Point for our second Egg Case Hunt of the year! Taking place along the East Coast, these free events are being delivered in partnership with the Shark Trust and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in a bid to involve local people in shark conservation. Ideal for children aged 3 upwards, you can support marine life whilst enjoying a great day out. All participants are asked to wear suitable sturdy footwear. The event is expected to finish by 3pm. Abbey House Museum – May Half Term

Enjoy different fantastical fairy tale activities each day in half term!

On Monday follow the fairy tale trial to find the Three Bears, Cinderella’s lost shoe and discover who gut off Rapunzel’s hair. On Tuesday try crafts inspired by different fairytale villains, Wednesday is silly science magical foamy fun and don’t miss the fairy tale inspired murder mystery on Thursday!  On Friday make a unicorn or dragon in fairy tale creature crafts.

Egyptology Holidays at Leeds City Museum

If you have children fascinated by the Ancient Egyptians every day of the May half term holiday they can follow hieroglyphic clues hidden around the museum on the Egyptian trail and see if you can crack the code.  Also, visit the gory Mummification Station and have a go at free craft activities to learn more about Nesyamun the mummy and treasures of the tomb.

Fairytale Fun at Lotherton Hall

Jackrabbits Pottery at Temple Newsam during May Half Term

Jackrabbits Pottery will be at Temple Newsam this half term! They will help children to paint their own ceramic tankard to drink from.
Suitable for all ages but children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. The workshops run 11.30am – 12-30pm or 2.00-3.00pm.

(Please note Jackrabbits will glaze, fire and wrap the tankards in paper. Please allow a maximum of 28 days from workshop date to allow mugs to be ready for collection from Temple Newsam).

Leeds Food & Drink Festival

Now in its eighth year, the annual Leeds Food & Drink Festival (formerly known as the Yorkshire Food & Drink Show) returns to Millennium Square in 2018 with a fresh new layout and look.

The three-day festival organised in partnership between Leeds City Council and The Yorkshire Post brings together a wide selection of some of the best local street food and artisan food specialists. Featuring a mouth-watering array of international culinary delights, there’ll be something to suit everyone’s taste buds from Yorkshire Pudding wraps to Mediterranean, Buffalo Burgers to Indian, Pulled Pork to Vegetarian plus a selection of tasty sweet treats making it the ultimate food lover’s paradise. New for 2018 there will be a traditional British tea rooms, a large festival marquee bar serving local craft and traditional real ales, Gin, Cocktails, Prosecco and Pimms and live musical entertainment.

The Leeds Food & Drink festival is free to enter and is open 11-8pm Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd June and 11am-4pm on Sunday 3rd June.
